National Higher Music Education Systems

Europe consists of many different countries, that each have a different system for higher music educatoin and training.

In this section, you can find information on the national systems for higher music education and training in various countries. For each country, the national system for higher music education and training is described, as well as several specific aspects, such as:

  • The number of higher music training and training institutions in this country
  • Information on the academic year (start/end, organisation in semesters/trimesters, etc.).
  • The structure of study cycles (1st cycle, 2d cycle, title of qualifications, etc.).
  • Descriptions of 3rd cycle courses (Doctorate/PhD) in music (if available).
  • Presence and use of a credit point system (if available).
  • Some brief information on employability and trends in the profession in this country (if available).

The descriptions of these systems are structured in such a way that they can be compared and, to make comparisons with systems in countries outside Europe possible, include countries in- and outside Europe.
